Lake Weir hasn't had much luck against Vanguard recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Hurricanes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lake Weir is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Crescent City 31-1 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Chapter Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lake Weir is 4-2 when Jones allows two or fewer hits, but 6-12 otherwise. Jones was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with five RBI and three runs. What's more, he posted four hits, the most he's had since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skyler Courtney, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kason Lucky, who scored four runs while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Vanguard earned a 6-1 victory over Matanzas on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
Like Lake Weir, Vanguard also got a great game from a two-way player: Bobby Blanco. He tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Blanco was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jacob ?Jake? Wells was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Clayton ?CT? Antonucci was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Vanguard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Matanzas only managed six hits.
Vanguard pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lake Weir, their win bumped their record up to 10-14.
Lake Weir couldn't quite get it done against Vanguard when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 7-4. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
