Baseball Recap: Hughson's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Hughson had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They blew past the Sonora Wildcats 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Max Mankins made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Beau Blake was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Andrew Fisher was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Hughson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hughson's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sonora, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Hughson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
