Volleyball Recap: Carrollton Comes Up Short

Carrollton entered their matchup against Newnan on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Trojans fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2020.

The 2-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Carrollton lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 20-25, 15-12.

Mallory Williams paced Carrollton's offense, picking up ten kills. Williams got some help from Olivia Sims and her 15 assists. Sims was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Newnan was led to victory by Mia West and Reighlyn Meacham. West had 19 assists and three digs, while Meacham had six kills. That's the most assists West has posted over her last seven contests.

Carrollton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Newnan, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

Carrollton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 victory against Pepperell on the 19th. As for Newnan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Bremen on the 19th.
