Basketball Game Preview: Magoffin County Hornets vs. Martin County Cardinals

The Magoffin County Hornets will venture away from home to take on the Martin County Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Saturday, Magoffin County came up short against Lawrence County and fell 70-58. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 69th).

Meanwhile, Martin County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down the Tigers 68-51.

Magoffin County's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Martin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.

Magoffin County came up short against Martin County in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 83-73. Can Magoffin County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
