Baseball Recap: La Junta Wins Going Away Against Pueblo Centennial

After losing to Pueblo Centennial the last time they met, La Junta decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 20-8 margin over the Bulldogs on Wednesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 12 runs or more this season.

Treyce Lovato made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Lovato was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Gavin Denahy was a standout: he scored three runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for La Junta: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise. Tony Rodriguez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

La Junta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

La Junta's record is now 3-6. As for Pueblo Centennial, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Junta will challenge Eaton at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Pueblo Centennial, they will take on Harrison at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
