Softball Recap: Wayne Hills Has No Trouble Against Kennedy

Wayne Hills won the last time they faced Kennedy and things went their way on Friday too. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Knights. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.

Isabella Mastroeni and Jaelyn Fritzsch were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Mastroeni pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Fritzsch tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Mastroeni went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Fritzsch got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four RBI and one triple. Those three runs gave Mastroeni a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gabriella Arcell was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Carlee Mirko, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Wayne Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Wayne Hills picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-11. As for Kennedy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Wayne Hills and Kennedy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Patriots will take on Passaic County Tech at 4:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (265 vs. 104). Meanwhile, Kennedy (ranked 348th) will meet Barringer (ranked 133rd) at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
