Basketball Game Preview: Hubbard Eagles vs. Ursuline Fighting Irish

Two dominant guards in Chloe Cicero and Kennedy Carpenter are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hubbard Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Ursuline Fighting Irish at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hubbard will bounce into Monday's game after beating Southeast, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Eagles secured a 52-48 W over the Pirates on Saturday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hubbard to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aniyah McElroy, who posted five points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave McElroy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Layla Songer, who put up eight points.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Ursuline's strategy against Salem on Saturday. The Fighting Irish strolled past the Quakers with points to spare, taking the game 53-35.

Hubbard's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 19.5 points. As for Ursuline, their record is now 5-8.

Hubbard suffered a grim 48-24 defeat to Ursuline in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
