Basketball Recap: St. John Lutheran Saints vs. Santa Fe Catholic Hawks
The St. John Lutheran Saints's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 44-31 win over Santa Fe Catholic. Given St. John Lutheran's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Hawks are ranked 669th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Isabel Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 22 rebounds. Freeman is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Kayla joy Bowen was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, Santa Fe Catholic had strong showings from Sofia Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals, and Takira Watson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
St. John Lutheran pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Santa Fe Catholic, they are on a 18-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.
St. John Lutheran won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Saint Francis Catholic is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Santa Fe Catholic, they will square off against the Miners at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
