Recap: Mt. Gilead Indians vs. Northmor Golden Knights
After losing to the Northmor Golden Knights the last time they met, the Mt. Gilead Indians decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Mt. Gilead came out on top against Northmor by a score of 50-40 on Saturday. Given Mt. Gilead's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Northmor is ranked 595th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mt. Gilead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Danielle Pohlkotte, who scored 13 points. Kendall Neal was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Despite the loss, Northmor saw an underclassman step up: Shelby Cooper dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Cooper pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Even though they lost, Northmor were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Gilead only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Mt. Gilead's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Northmor, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Mt. Gilead will be playing in front of their home fans against Centerburg at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Northmor is on the road again on Wednesday and play against East Knox at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th.
