Softball Recap: Chesterton's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Chesterton dropped their record down to 9-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-1 to the Lake Central Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 back in April.

As for Lake Central, their record now sits at 20-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

For Lake Central's part, Maddie Such looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Such has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kate Renschen, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Schafer, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Chesterton will head out on the road to face off against Crown Point at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lake Central, they will take on Portage at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Portage has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something Lake Central will no doubt try to take advantage of.
