Softball Recap: Wheeling Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hoffman Estates on Tuesday, Wheeling came back down to earth. The Wildcats took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Palatine Pirates on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost nine in a row.

Alaina Costello was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Wheeling's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for Palatine, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Coming up, Wheeling will welcome Elgin at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Palatine, they will head out on the road to face off against Buffalo Grove at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
