Baseball Recap: Greenville H Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

While Greenville H put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Blacksburg. The Hurricanes put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 16-0 win. Considering the Hurricanes have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Declan Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Martin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Greenville H let Owen Giles and Richard Jacobs III run wild. Giles went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Jacobs III went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Jacobs III is becoming a predictor of Greenville H's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was JJ Nixon, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Greenville H kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.2.

Greenville H is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Blacksburg, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-15 record.

Coming up, Greenville H will welcome Southside Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Blacksburg, they will face off against Blue Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
