Basketball Game Preview: Lincoln East Spartans vs. Millard South Patriots

The Lincoln East Spartans will square off against the Millard South Patriots at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Lincoln East is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 61 points on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Lincoln North Star on Friday. They had to suffer through a 70-30 loss at the hands of the Navigators. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Millard South entered their matchup against Pius X on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Millard South was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to Pius X. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Patriots came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 53rd).

Lincoln East will need focus on slowing down Koby Meyers, one of several Millard South players who made an impact when they last played. He went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brevin Meyers, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Millard South's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-5. As for Lincoln East, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Lincoln East might still be hurting after the 62-37 defeat they got from Millard South in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Thankfully for Lincoln East, Will Cooper (who went 7 of 12 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
