Preview: Tom Bean Tomcats vs. McLeod Longhorns
The Tom Bean Tomcats are on the road again on Thursday and play against the McLeod Longhorns at 12:30 p.m. on December 28th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Tom Bean humbled Bowie with a 75-38 victory. With Tom Bean ahead 47-18 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Branson Ashlock and CJ Richter were among the main playmakers for Tom Bean as the former dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds and the latter scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Richter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Brody Pearson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, McLeod put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 70-37 victory over Miller Grove on the road. Given McLeod's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while Miller Grove is ranked 1471st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tom Bean has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for McLeod, their victory bumped their record up to 21-0.
Tom Bean came up short against McLeod in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 41-37. Can Tom Bean avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
