Softball Recap: West Mifflin Makes It Four in a Row at Home

West Mifflin proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Laurel Highlands Mustangs 3-2. This was payback for the Titans, who suffered a 4-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

RYLIE DOBNAK spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, West Mifflin's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was SAMANTHA TOMKO, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

West Mifflin's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Laurel Highlands, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. West Mifflin will face off against rival Elizabeth Forward at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Titans 2.7, the Warriors 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Laurel Highlands is set to square off against their familiar foe Uniontown at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
