Cherry Creek extended the longest winning streak in 5A Centennial this week by beating Smoky Hill, 35-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bruins.
Cherry Creek was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to second in the league. Dave Logan's team defeated the Buffaloes 35-7 earlier in the week.
Watkins, Sean was the best wideout in the league this week as Eaglecrest lost to Overland. Watkins, Sean racked up four receptions for 85 yards. Anderson, Petey helped Eaglecrest's passing attack out by catching three balls for 46 yards.
Isaiah Jackson was the most productive running back in 5A Centennial this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 103 yards as Grandview lost to the Trailblazers. Reece Weber also contributed to the rushing game with 56 yards on the ground.
Luke Papilion threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns. He was 18-24 with one interceptions.
Hayden Porter made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wolves fell to Cherokee Trail. The 5-foot-8 junior recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
Grandview's Weber and Tanner Gentry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Weber has thrown for 1054 yards this season, while Gentry, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 32 catches for 680 yards. The Bruins' Tahj Willingham leads the league in rushing yards with 1012.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between John Schultz's team and Cherry Creek. The Wolves comes into the matchup ranked 13th in the state, while the Bruins ranks 12th.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Eaglecrest takes on the Cougars. Michael Schmitt's team's offense has recorded 251 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Cherokee Trail has permitted only 77 on the year.
