Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Lancers vs. San Juan Hills Stallions

The Lakewood Lancers will head out on the road to square off against the San Juan Hills Stallions at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lakewood 3.8, San Juan Hills 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Lakewood's win against Santa Fe wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lancers skirted past the Chiefs 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted since April 20, 2024.

Nate Garcia and Hunter Gershen dominated on the mound. Garcia tossed six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits, while Gershen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gershen has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anthony Zepeda was incredible, scoring a run while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four). Another player making a difference was Drake Merrill, who scored three runs while going 2-for-6.

Meanwhile, San Juan Hills got the win against El Toro two weeks ago by a conclusive 9-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Stallions.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for San Juan Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
