Basketball Recap: Madonna Takes a Loss

Madonna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by the Catholic Central Crusaders 78-42. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Blue Dons came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 128th in West Virginia, while the Crusaders are ranked 278th in Ohio).

Despite the defeat, Madonna saw an underclassman step up: freshman Connor Carte on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. That was a full 50% of Madonna's points, marking the fourth time in a row Carte has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Reno Fuscardo, who earned seven points and six boards.

Madonna's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Catholic Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.

Madonna wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 80-56 defeat against Weir on the 21st. Catholic Central has also already played their next match (against Strasburg-Franklin), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
