Baseball Game Preview: Napa Grizzlies vs. Petaluma Trojans

Napa is 0-10 against Petaluma since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Neither Napa nor Petaluma posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Monday, Napa didn't have quite enough to beat Sonoma Valley and fell 3-1.

Frankie Robinson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Napa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colin Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Taylor's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Petaluma fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Justin-Siena on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Braves by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Trojans' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Petaluma fell to 9-1. As for Napa, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Napa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Petaluma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Napa might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Petaluma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
