Baseball Preview: Tohono O'Odham Eagles vs. Ajo Red Raiders
The Tohono O'Odham Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Ajo Red Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Tohono O'Odham comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Tohono O'Odham came up short against Thunderbird Adventist Academy on Tuesday, falling 18-5.
Clayden Nunez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Flores, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ajo). They were the clear victors by a 22-5 margin over New Way Learning Academy on Wednesday. The Red Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Malin Lewis was a standout: he fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Ajo: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Crimzyn Lenard also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Ajo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Tohono O'Odham's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Ajo, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
