Football Preview: Marshall County Marshals vs. Owensboro Red Devils
Marshall County hasn't had much luck against Owensboro recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Marshals will take on the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Marshall County's win against Muhlenberg County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Marshals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 23-21 victory over the Mustangs on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Marshals in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Meanwhile, Owensboro was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Apollo 42-14. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won three games by 28 points or more so far this season.
Marshall County better focus on containing Evan Hampton and DaMarcus Ganaway Jr as the pair were huge in Owensboro's win. Hampton rushed for 189 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 11.8 yards per carry, while Ganaway Jr threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes. Owensboro is undefeated when Hampton posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Ganaway Jr's aerial production (85 yards to be exact) went to Kingston Dillard, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Owensboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 235 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 50.3 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 209.
