Basketball Recap: Walnut Grove Christian Takes a Loss

Walnut Grove Christian lost against Lee Park Prep on January 13th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Walnut Grove Christian Christian Warriors fell 78-65 to the Lee Park Prep Knights.

Despite the loss, Walnut Grove Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore AJ Curerton posted 22 points. Curerton's evening made it 20 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Choate, who had 15 points.

Isaac Watkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lee Park Prep, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Watkins has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Brody Adams was another key player, going 9 for 14 on his way to 20 points and eight boards.

Walnut Grove Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Lee Park Prep, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Walnut Grove Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Buford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Walnut Grove Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches. As for Lee Park Prep, they and Grace Academy will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Lee Park Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season.
