The Springfield Blue Devils's seven-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They snuck past Open Door Christian with a 53-48 victory. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Springfield has managed all season.
Nate Pope continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Adams, who scored eight points.
Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Open Door Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Springfield will head out on the road to face off against Whitmer at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Whitmer presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Springfield in Ohio (Whitmer is ranked eighth, while Springfield is ranked 589th). Open Door Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Willard at 12:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Willard will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
