Basketball Recap: Wilmington Wins Going Away Against Momence

There's no place like home for Wilmington, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 53-41 victory over the Momence Momence Athletics on Wednesday. The match marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season so far.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wilmington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Nelson, who posted 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, Nelson is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Rink, who earned 15 points and three steals.

Wilmington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Several Momence Athletics players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Austin Lynch, who put up 12 points. Lynch continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Taylor, who posted six points and three steals.

Wilmington's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Momence, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Wilmington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 37-35 win against Herscher on the 13th. Momence and Grant Park will compete for holiday cheer at 7:15 p.m. on December 20th.
