Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers vs. Gibsonburg Golden Bears

St. Mary Central Catholic hasn't had much luck against Gibsonburg recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will take on the Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. St. Mary Central Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Gibsonburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

St. Mary Central Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Danbury. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Lakers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Cayden Wikel and Reid Wikel did most of the damage at the plate: Cayden went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Reid went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Cayden has posted since back in April of 2024. Rylan Wikel also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Gibsonburg and St. Joseph Central Catholic had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Golden Bears blew past the Crimson Streaks 11-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Bears, who have now won seven games by ten runs or more so far this season.

St. Mary Central Catholic pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gibsonburg, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

St. Mary Central Catholic came up short against Gibsonburg when the teams last played back in April, falling 4-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
