Softball Recap: Oasis Academy Bighorns vs. West Wendover Wolverines

Oasis Academy waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the West Wendover Wolverines onto the board and left with a 1-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for Oasis Academy, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Taylynn Maynez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Maynez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Maynez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Kaylin Guthrie was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

Oasis Academy pushed their record up to 19-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for West Wendover, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Oasis Academy will head out on the road to challenge Silver Stage at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Silver Stage knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Oasis Academy likes a good challenge. As for West Wendover, they will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Incline at 2:00 p.m. West Wendover is facing Incline at the right time seeing as Incline is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
