Baseball Game Preview: Winston Academy Patriots vs. Manchester Academy Mavericks

The Winston Academy Patriots will head out on the road to challenge the Manchester Academy Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Winston Academy will be strutting in after a win while Manchester Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Winston Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Kirk Academy. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.

Reed Yates made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Yates was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonah Hood, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Owen Woodward was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Manchester Academy's offense. They lost 10-0 to Sylva Bay Academy on Tuesday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Mavericks were not able to get on the board.

Manchester Academy's loss dropped their record down to 27-9. As for Winston Academy, their record is now 19-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Winston Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Manchester Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Winston Academy suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to Manchester Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
