Volleyball Recap: Basalt Longhorns vs. Steamboat Springs Sailors

Basalt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Steamboat Springs Sailors. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sailors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Basalt took a 1-1 lead headed into the third set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 27-25, 20-25, 25-11, 25-22.

Leading Steamboat Springs to victory were Maizey Bringuel and Cam Romero. Bringuel had 25 digs, while Romero had six digs and 12 assists. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Romero now posted nine or more in the last nine games she's played dating back to last season.

Basalt's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Steamboat Springs, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Basalt will stay at home for another game and welcome Aspen at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are at an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2019, but likely not for long. As for Steamboat Springs, they will welcome Battle Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Battle Mountain will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Steamboat Springs surely won't give up without a fight.
