After both having extra time off, the Manchester Greyhounds and the Southern Tornadoes will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Manchester saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They came out on top against Glenwood by a score of 3-1.
Manchester had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Southern waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Flyers 3-0.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Southern was: they took every set by at least 20 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-5, 25-4, 25-4.
Southern's win came from a few key players Manchester will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Taylor Roberts, who had five aces. Katie Caldwell also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.
Southern was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 25 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since the start of last season.
Manchester's record is now 8-12. As for Southern, their record now sits at 19-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Manchester has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Southern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Manchester might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Southern in their previous matchup back in October of 2021. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
