Baseball Game Preview: Old Orchard Beach Seagulls vs. St. Dominic Saints

The Old Orchard Beach Seagulls will head out on the road to square off against the St. Dominic Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Old Orchard Beach will be strutting in after a victory while St. Dominic will be coming in after a defeat.

Old Orchard Beach had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Traip on Wednesday. The Seagulls were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Rangers. The Seagulls' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Colby Salamacha made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Salamacha was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Trot Moody was incredible, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Moody is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Daniel Cashman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, St. Dominic didn't have quite enough to beat Waynflete on Wednesday and fell 12-10. The loss continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Flyers: they've now lost three in a row.

Riley Daigle made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Joseph Adams was another key player, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs.

St. Dominic now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Old Orchard Beach, their record is now 3-0.

Old Orchard Beach skirted past St. Dominic 7-6 in their previous matchup on Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seagulls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
