Basketball Recap: Aly Jeter Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Whitmire

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McCormick, Thornwell was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They managed a 35-29 victory over the Whitmire Wolverines. For the Saints, this counts as revenge for the 27-19 win the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Thornwell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aly Jeter, who posted ten points and six steals. Jeter is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Kynli English was another key player, putting up two points in addition to 12 rebounds and four steals.

Despite the loss, Whitmire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooklynn Babb scored 12 points and three steals. That was a full 41.4% of Whitmire's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brantlee Roche, who earned six points.

With the win, Thornwell broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-6. As for Whitmire, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Thornwell will face off against Greenwood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Whitmire, they will head out to take on McCormick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Whitmire has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
