Preview: Corsicana Tigers vs. Midlothian Heritage Jaguars

Corsicana is 0-1 against Midlothian Heritage since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Corsicana Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Corsicana has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Midlothian Heritage will arrive with eight straight wins.

Last Friday, Corsicana was beaten by Mansfield Summit 55-14. While losing is never fun, Corsicana can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 635th, while Mansfield Summit is ranked 174th).

The losing side was boosted by Darelle Smith, who rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Smith's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Midlothian Heritage ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged Ennis out 38-35. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

Among those leading the charge was Carter Rutenbar, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also threw for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Rutenbar is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Jordan Soto did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in four field goals and two extra points.

Midlothian Heritage's win bumped their season record to 7-0 while Corsicana's loss dropped theirs to 2-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Corsicana has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Midlothian Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 158.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Corsicana was taken down by Midlothian Heritage 56-24 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Corsicana, Kaden Brown (who threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
