Baseball Game Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

For the second straight game, Torrey Pines will face off against La Costa Canyon. The Falcons will head out to challenge the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Torrey Pines barely beat La Costa Canyon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Mavericks on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won three in a row.

Brody Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ryder Young was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Torrey Pines is undefeated when Young posts two or more runs, but 8-11 otherwise. Liam Moran was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Torrey Pines was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win got Torrey Pines back to even at 11-11. As for La Costa Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
