League recap: Larsen breaks off league-leading run for Crow

1A Special District 5 (8 Man) recap September 17, 2013

Rylan Larsen of Crow ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man) this season against Falls City/Kings Valley Charter last week. Larsen's team bested the Mountaineers as he sprinted for 75 yards on the play and finished with 75 in all.

Mapleton and Alsea played the most contested game in the league this week, with Mapleton eventually emerging with a 38-34 victory.

Bailey Adams threw for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 7-19 with 2 interceptions.

Adams put up the best numbers through the air as McKenzie fell to Crane. Adams' favorite target this week was Alex Nastasiuk, who caught 3 passes for 66 yards.

Geoff Payne was a force in the backfield as Yoncalla beat Joseph.

Payne was the best running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 232 yards as the Eagles topped the Eagles. Teammate Will Shaw added to the ground attack by rushing for 135 yards.

Payne provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Yoncalla bested Joseph. Payne's favorite target this week was Van Loon, who caught 7 passes for 61 yards.

Van Loon was the best wideout in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man) this week as Matt Bragg's team bested Josh Harman's team. Joe Keller helped Yoncalla's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 13 yards.

On the heels of Shaw and Payne, the Eagles have had great success on offense. Shaw is tops in the league in passing with 327 yards, while Payne has rushed for 434 yards this season. Crow's Kyle Schwin leads the league in receiving yards with 346 on 12 catches.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Yoncalla takes on Mohawk. The Eagles are in first place, while the Indians are in sixth place.

The Eagles lost to the Mustangs 58-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adams ran for 21 yards in the loss.
