            Baseball Recap: Murphysboro Red Devils vs. Nashville Hornets        
        
		
        
        
            If Murphysboro was feeling good  fresh off their  11-3 takedown of Herrin last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Devils fell just short of the Nashville Hornets by a score of  5-4 on Wednesday. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their  loss the last time these teams played  back in May of 2023.

 Gage Taylor put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he  struck out six batters over  four innings while giving up  three earned runs off only  two  hits. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box,  going 3-for-4 with two  runs and one  double. He has become a key player for Murphysboro: the team is 6-3 when he posts  at  least  two  runs, but 5-11 otherwise.
 In other batting news,  Bryce Edwards made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went a perfect 3-for-3 with two  runs and one  stolen base. Murphysboro is 3-1 when  Edwards posts two or  more  runs, but 8-13 otherwise.  Austin Hunter was another key player,  going 1-for-3 with three  RBI.
Murphysboro dropped their record down to 11-14 with the  defeat, which was their third straight  on the road. As for Nashville, the  victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 26-1.
 Both  squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Murphysboro will welcome Chester  at 3:00  p.m.  on Saturday. As for Nashville, they will challenge Greenville at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday.
