After both having extra time off, the Southeast Halifax Trojans and the Community Christian Cyclones will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Southeast Halifax came up short against Northwest Halifax and fell 67-58.
Despite the defeat, Southeast Halifax saw an underclassman step up: sophomore O'Tavion Arrington went 6 for 15 on his way to 15 points and four steals. Raquan Scott was another key player, putting up 13 points.
Even though they lost, Southeast Halifax smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Community Christian humbled Varsity Opponent with a 63-22 victory. The Cyclones have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 30 points or more this season.
Community Christian's win came from a few key players Southeast Halifax will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Evan Gattis, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 21 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Beamon, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.
Community Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.8 points per game. As for Southeast Halifax, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Southeast Halifax and Community Christian are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Southeast Halifax hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.3 points per game. However, it's not like Community Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 74.8 points.
