Softball Recap: Baldwin Park Comes Up Short

Baldwin Park extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 5-6. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Azusa Aztecs. The Braves were not able to make up for their defeat to the Aztecs from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Trinity Carrasco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ariel Hernandez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Sanchez, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Azusa, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On Azusa's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Deziree Bernardino gave up just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Aubrey Guzman was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Baldwin Park and Azusa will both be playing Sierra Vista the next time they take the field. The Aztecs will head out to face the Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Braves will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
