Volleyball Recap: Charlestown Pirates vs. North Harrison Cougars

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Charlestown and North Harrison, and North Harrison kept the tradition alive. The Pirates fell 3-1 to the Cougars on Thursday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

While Charlestown had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Izzy Combs paced Charlestown's offense, picking up 12 kills. Combs got some help from Adi Burchel and her 36 assists. Finally, Combs was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

North Harrison found their leader in freshman Emily Swarens, who had five digs and three aces.

Charlestown has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for North Harrison, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Charlestown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Salem on the 13th. As for North Harrison, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Paoli on the 15th.
