Softball Recap: Mayfield Falls Short Against Ranked Las Cruces

Mayfield faced Las Cruces in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trojans fell just short of the Bulldawgs by a score of 8-7. The loss was the Trojans' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mayfield fell to 12-1. As for Las Cruces, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mayfield will challenge Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Las Cruces, they will take on Gadsden at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.93 runs per game on average), something the Bulldawgs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
