League recap: Serra climbs in state rankings with win

Serra moved up to 243 from 285 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in City. The Conquistadors were able to make move up by defeating Morse 35-15.

Serra extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Tigers, 35-15. The victory was the fifth in a row for Brian Basteyns' team.

The Conquistadors' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. HUNTER CORRELL threw for 205 and one touchdown and CALVIN CROCKETT had 74 yards receiving. On the ground JAHLIL JOHNSON chipped in 73 yards. KHALEAL JAMES helped Serra's passing attack out by catching one ball for 38 yards.

Thanks to the talents of CORRELL and WILLIE MARTINEZ Serra has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. CORRELL leads the league in passing with 1097 yards, while MARTINEZ has rushed for 515 yards this season. Patrick Henry's Jabril Clewis leads the league in receiving yards with 469 on 25 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Patriots take on Morse. As it stands, Patrick Henry is in first, while Tracy Mcnair's team is in fourth.

Mike Martinez's team led City in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on San Diego. Lamarr Horne ran for 67 yards and caught one passes for 18 yards in the win.
