Football Game Preview: George West Longhorns vs. Lexington Eagles

The George West Longhorns will challenge the Lexington Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. George West will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

George West is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Karnes City 56-14. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Badgers are ranked 476th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

George West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kohen Blount led the charge by rushing for 118 yards and a pair of scores. Blount is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 109 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Heard, who rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: George West was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 474 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lexington won against Rogers two weeks ago with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Eagles pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over Brazos.

George West better keep an eye on Kase Evans. He was instrumental in Lexington's win, rushing for 143 yards and one TD while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also throwing for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 143 rushing yards gave Evans a new career-high. Amaury OBryant also helped with two scores in total.

George West's record now sits at 11-0. As for Lexington, their record is now 9-1-1.

George West was taken down by Lexington 76-0 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Longhorns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
