Softball Recap: Keystone Heights Comes Up Short

Keystone Heights extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-7. They lost 10-0 to the Baker County Wildcats. The game marked the first time this season in which the Indians were not able to get on the board.

As for Baker County, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For Baker County's part, Grace Masterson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Masterson has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Keyla Nelson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Baleigh Shields, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Keystone Heights will welcome Oakleaf at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Baker County, they will be playing at home against Hilliard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
