Softball Recap: Fox Chapel's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Fox Chapel dropped their record down to 8-2-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the New Castle Hurricanes by a score of 9-8. The Foxes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hurricanes earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

As for New Castle, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.

For New Castle's part, Lexi Moyer spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keara Mangieri, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Mangieri, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Fox Chapel will challenge Mars at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Fightin' Planets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.38 runs per game on average), something the Foxes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for New Castle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shaler Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
