Volleyball Recap: Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Comes Up Short

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's tournament run continued when they took on Newsome on Friday. The Hurricanes fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 2-1. The Hurricanes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-18, 15-12.

Their offense was headlined by Emma Zanatta and Roxana Moore, who picked up nine kills apiece. They got some help from Sabrina DeMarco and her 15 assists. Finally, Gabriella Figueiredo and Mackenziee Graf kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.

Newsome can attribute much of their success to Natalie Kappaz, who had 17 assists and six digs. Shelby Toney also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Newsome, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic has already played their next match, a 2-1 defeat against Sickles on the 20th. As for Newsome, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against Academy of the Holy Names on the 20th.
