Volleyball Recap: Durham Trojans vs. Mt. Shasta Bears
With a playoff game on the line, Durham rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Mt. Shasta Bears. The Trojans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bears, too.
Durham walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the fourth set). The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 25-12.
Payton Santos paced Durham's offense, picking up 19 kills. Santos got some help from
Clare Osbon and her 54 assists. Osbon was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.
Despite the loss, Mt. Shasta saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaley Lanier had 21 digs. Lanier is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in the last 13 games she's played.
The win snapped Durham's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 19-14 record. As for Mt. Shasta, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 22-8-1.
Durham and East Nicolaus are set to duel on Tuesday. East Nicolaus will roll in looking for their 26th straight victory, something Durham surely won't give up without a fight. Mt. Shasta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
