Softball Recap: Snohomish Wins High-Profile Contest Against Stanwood

Snohomish faced Stanwood in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Panthers walked away with a 10-7 win over the Spartans. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 two weeks ago.

Abby Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jordyn Smith was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Rhys Doyle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Snohomish was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Snohomish is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Stanwood, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-3.

As of now, neither Snohomish nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
