Softball Recap: Summit Extends Road Winning Streak to Seven

After losing to Carter the last time they met, Summit decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The SkyHawks walked away with an 8-5 win over the Lions on Wednesday.

Desi Varerla looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Isabella Smith and Clarissa Leon did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Leon got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Isabella Cardona, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Summit kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive contests.

Summit pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Carter, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Summit will face off against Jurupa Hills at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The SkyHawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Carter, they will square off against Grand Terrace at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Titans will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
