Georgia beats Alabama for two receivers

Valdosta's Jay Rome (No. 26 in nation) and Malcolm Mitchell like Bulldogs; Ameer Abdullah picks Nebraska.

The University of Georgia reached into football-hotbed Valdosta (Ga.) for two outstanding receivers this week - beating out the University of Alabama on both occasions - according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Both receivers are on CBS/MaxPreps recruiting expert Tom Lemming's updated Top 100 list.

The first to commit was Jay Rome, a powerful 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end who is rated No. 26 overall and is the son of former NFL receiver Stan Rome, who also starred at Valdosta High.

Later on the same day his teammate, Malcolm Mitchell, also pledged to the Bulldogs. A 6-1, 195-pounder, Mitchell made 77 catches as a senior for 1,419 yards and 13 touchdowns. Mitchell is No. 68 overall on Lemming's list.



* The University of Nebraska has landed a standout player from Homewood (Ala.) with the commitment of Ameer Abdullah, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. The 5-9, 177-pounder ran for 1,795 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior.
