Baseball Recap: McGavock Takes a Loss

McGavock extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-8. They lost 15-4 to the Hillsboro Burros. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Burros this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on Monday.

McGavock saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Carter, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That hit was Carter's first of the season.

As for Hillsboro, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hillsboro's side, Clayton Jenkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jenkins has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cyrus Conner was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. He has become a key player for Hillsboro: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Drake McDowell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, McGavock will head out to square off against Donelson Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hillsboro, they will be playing at home against Hunters Lane at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
