Glencoe had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Newberg on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide's pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 10-0 shutout. The Crimson Tide might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Kalli Farrimond made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Glencoe got a massive performance out of Kendyl Mishler, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Mishler a new career-high. Raegan Dean also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Glencoe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newberg only posted a batting average of .263.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Glencoe, bringing their record up to 11-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Newberg, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Glencoe will challenge rival McMinnville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Crimson Tide 2.4, the Grizzlies 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Newberg is set to square off against their familiar foe Forest Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
